Designing a Sake for My Class

Why Sake?

As a school convention, Hitotsubashi ICS students participate in a rice-planting activity each year, which serves as a trip for learning and practicing sustainable developmental goals.

As a Japanese tradition, we make sake out of the rice we planted.

Each year, the students form team to design labels for the sake. The most voted design is going to be produced into official sake of the year.

Concept

In 1 May 2019, Japan entered the Reiwa Era (令和時代). As class of 2018, we are on the verge of the previous era Heisei(平成)and the new one.

We wanted to have a sake that represents now and the future.

We thought of the core concept of a bridge. As in Japanese, our school name “hitotsubashi” means “one bridge“.

The concept of “One Bridge(一橋)”:

1. Connects 平成 & 令和.

2. Connects us and the previous class.

3. Connects our school and others as the sake would be use as gifts.

4. Connects local community and others live outside the community.

Design

The shape of a bridge also resembles: 1) 今 (now) ; 2) 令和’s 令.

The person on the boat represents Class of 2018, going beyond the bridge and to a promising future.
